Ube, also known as purple yam, has a rich cultural history, particularly in the Philippines, where it’s been a staple food for centuries. The yam, with its striking purple hue, is believed to have originated in Southeast Asia, growing naturally in the wild before being cultivated. It became a popular ingredient in Filipino cuisine due to its unique flavor, versatility, and availability.
